Growing up, I’d always dreamed of living in America. It was one of those things I told myself I’d do “one day” — I just never knew how I’d actually make it happen.In January, I came to America as a tourist. I visited New York, Orlando and LA. A few days in, I knew one thing — I wanted to live here.The problem? I didn’t want to study here, I didn’t want to rely on a US employer to sponsor me, and I definitely didn’t have thousands to spend on an immigration lawyer.So I started researching every option I could find. That’s when I came across a route I’d never even heard of before. Then, just 7 months later, my visa was approved, and I made the move.

Moving to the USA can seem almost impossible when you don’t know where to start. I felt exactly the same. But once I found a route that suited my circumstances and understood what was actually involved, it suddenly felt much more achievable.I created this guide because it’s exactly what I wish I’d had when I started researching. Before I started researching, I assumed an investor visa meant having tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to invest.That’s when I discovered the E-2 Investor Visa.What surprised me was that there isn’t one fixed investment amount that applies to everyone — the investment has to be "substantial" for the business you’re starting.In my case, I started an online jewellery brand and invested around $10,000 into getting the business up and running. This was enough to qualify me for the Visa.I’d been working and saving since I was 18, so I already had the money put aside.
